It feels like just yesterday we were shopping for holiday gifts, eating every Christmas cookie in sight, and setting up our “Out of Office” email notifications. Ready or not, we’re already celebrating a brand spanking new YEAR! 2019 is shaping up to be a kick-ass time, and the Sarah Olivia Marketing team is SO excited to continue fostering our Boss Babe Empire. If there’s one major takeaway we received from 2018, it’s that building a business takes plenty of time & energy, and it’s all too easy to let self-care fall by the wayside. A new year provides the perfect reason to prioritize self-care: trust us––you can’t pour from an empty cup! Looking after yourself isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, but we’ve narrowed it down to five surefire self-care habits to help you start your new year off right.
Say Yes to Saying NO
Be honest with yourself--do you really feel like staying out late, or would you rather take a long, relaxing bubble bath at home? Not everyone will understand your reasoning for prioritizing self-care, but understand this: it is perfectly okay to say no to people in order to protect your well-being. Do what feels right to you, for you.
Nourish Your Body
Our bodies are machines, and we should treat them as such! Eat mindfully (don’t skip the veggies, but also don’t deny yourself a treat every now & then), exercise, and get plenty of sleep.
Practice the Attitude of Gratitude
Even when life or business endeavors throw challenges our way (this is inevitable), take time each day to give thanks. Whether your reasons to keep going are big or small, remember that perspective is everything. We are blessed.
Out with the Old, In with the Upgrades
Hate those old, cracked wine glasses in your cabinet? Ditch ‘em, and invest in new ones. Does using shampoo from the supermarket make your hair feel super ‘blah’? Consider using a higher-end product. Investing in yourself in big, and small ways will pay off in the long run. You are your greatest asset––treat yourself!
Pencil YOU In
We make time to schedule appointments, run errands, etc., but what about setting aside time JUST for you…? Take time to do things that make you happy and relaxed––schedule a massage, pencil in an extra hour for yourself to read books before bedtime––whatever helps you to breathe and unwind.
Self-care is totally trending in 2019, and doesn’t show signs of leaving the party anytime soon! Do something kind for yourself today––you wholeheartedly deserve it.
